ABOUT MMA GANGSTA
You know who you are
In an era of bland corporate bullshit and shallow celebrity bandwagons, MMA GANGSTA represents true fight fans. The ones who will do whatever it takes to follow the game they love. The ones who will support their local fighters through the highs and the lows. The ones who will travel the world just so they can say “we were there”.
Proven commitment. Unshakable belief. Fighting spirit. One family.
That’s MMA GANGSTA.
Why we’re here
AJ Wakeford, founder of UK clothing brand MMA GANGSTA, was a fight fan first. A veteran of more than 50 live UFC events since 2005, plus dozens at other promotions including Bellator, Cage Warriors and Cage Rage, AJ has been cage-side for many of mixed-martial arts’ biggest moments – and has the stories to prove it.
UFC 223 (the one with the Irishman, the Russian, and the Dolley) was one such moment. “Gangsta” was the word on everyone’s lips that week, inspired by the fighters that stepped up on short notice to save the event.
Sitting at a bustling bar in Brooklyn, AJ and a fellow fan toasted to the power of MMA to break down barriers and bring people together (in a good way). But when it came to MMA clothing brands, one glance around the room was all that was needed to see that these fans were being let down.
At one end were the over-the-top, shouty designs that normal people were embarrassed to wear with the lights on. At the other end were the over-priced, bland corporate uniforms that were robbing fighters of funding and self-expression.
“I can do better,” said AJ.
“Put your money where your mouth is,” said his drinking partner.
Talk turned to action and, in 2018, MMA GANGSTA was born.
Raising the game
MMA GANGSTA clothing is designed to represent the true fight fan with style and personality. That said, our mission is much bigger.
As a fan, there’s nothing better than seeing your local fighters do well. At a time when funding is tougher than ever for aspiring fighters, we want to make things easier so they can focus on reaching their potential. That’s why we plan to put profits back into sponsorships and development programmes for local talent.
With MMA GANGSTA, you’re not just going to look damn good, you’re joining a community of fans that’s helping to build tomorrow’s champions.
Follow MMA GANGSTA on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter to find out how you can be part of it.
